Psychotherapy for Humans Ages 2-199.

We provide psychotherapy to people ages 2 and older. Our therapists are trained in play therapy, EMDR, and more. We work with individuals, couples, and families. We also offer group therapy for addiction recovery, trauma, and grief.

Individualized Care.
Parenting Support

At the Center, we don't offer cookie-cutter therapy. We collaborate with each client to create an individualized treatment plan. Because different problems call for different solutions, our psychotherapists are trained in a variety of evidence-based techniques. Below are a few of our favorite modalities.

EMDR

Since 1989, countless studies have demonstrated that Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (“EMDR”) is an extremely effective way to heal emotional and physical wounds that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Sometimes, when a brain’s processing system becomes overwhelmed by the impact of a disturbing event, the system is unable to store the event as memory. Instead, people may feel as if they are reliving the event in the present. In EMDR, a trained clinician guides their client in a series of rapid eye movements or other bilateral stimulation techniques as the client brings up thoughts, feelings, images, etc. from the trauma. The effect is that the memory becomes “reprocessed” into the brain’s information system, and the person no longer feels as if they are ”reliving” their trauma. This is a technique that does not require a lot of talking, and the client does not need to tell the clinicians the details of their trauma for EMDR to be effective. Please note that EMDR is suitable for a wide range of issues, including but not limited to PTSD, complex trauma, low self-esteem, attachment ruptures, anxiety, addiction, and more.

Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems (IFS) understands that every human being contains multitudes. IFS conceives of each person as a system of protective and wounded inner parts which is led by a core Self. In Internal Family Systems, the clinician and client speak directly to the different parts of self. The result of IFS is that the person can ask unhelpful wounded or protective parts to step back, so the person can step into the 8 Cs which are the hallmark of their true Self: confidence, calm, compassion, courage, creativity, clarity, curiosity, and connectedness

Play Therapy

A child processes information differently than an adult. Play therapy provides a child with an emotionally safe, developmentally appropriate way to express thoughts and feelings. Toys are like the child's words and play is the child's language (Landreth, 2002). Through play therapy, the child learns to express feelings, develop problem-solving skills, modify behaviors, and relate healthily to others. At the Center for Psychological Health, our multi-disciplinary team consists of specialists in play therapy.

Love is our true destiny. We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone— we find it with another.

Relational Therapy

These words, written by the Trappist monk Thomas Merton, speak to the importance of relationships. Relationships bring us fulfillment, joy, and love— but they can also be hard, precisely because they are so meaningful. Relationship therapy can help people strengthen or clarify their connection by providing a non-judgmental space in which to explore how each person's story shapes the other, and to experiment with new, healthier ways of communicating. At the Center for Psychological Health, we know that important relationships  take many different forms, and are ready to work with all kinds of family structures and partnerships. Whether you are a divorced couple seeking help with co-parenting, a mom wanting to better understand their child's diagnosis, a newly engaged couple, or lifelong friends who've hit a bump in the road, we are here. Below are a few of the services that we provide.

LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Care

The Center provides therapists who are certified in LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Care, which means that they are trained with the knowledge, tools, and resources to  help LGBTQIA+ clients feel validated and secure.

The Gottman Method for Couples Therapy

The Gottman Method, born out of over four decades of research with over 30,000 couples, is a globally-recognized technique that teaches couples with skills for managing conflict, improving intimacy and friendship, and sharing life purposes and dreams. We provide therapists who are trained in the Gottman Method.

Parenting Support

Parent-focused therapy sessions may. be utilized to understand your child's diagnosis, solve problems, develop behavior modification plans, repair family relationships, and help prevent problems from happening in the future. We also help parents advocate for their children's needs. By working with us to create a suggested school support plan, children and parents will be equipped with the tools to make school a good place to learn.

Individual Therapy
Why Group Therapy?
Group Therapy

Real healing happens when a client feels a shift in longstanding negative emotional patterns. Group therapy can deliver that. Imagine a client struggling with shame and isolation. They’ve done the work of opening up, and identifying where these feelings coming from. But talk can only take them so far. What is really needed is “unlearning”: an experience in which the client feels deep connection and acceptance while addressing their painful memory. This allows the brain to “unlock” its negative patterns and replace them with healthier thoughts and feelings.

This felt experience—a sense of safety even as we address our pain head-on—enables profound psychic shifts. Group therapy makes great therapy by providing that sense of safety. We can’t heal ourselves alone, but together we can tackle even the oldest, deepest issues.

Our group facilitator, Anna, has nearly ten years combined experience of leading therapeutic groups and teaching. She is passionate about the healing power unique to the group experience and brings a warm presence to the room. Reach out to Anna at anna@centerforpsychhealth.com if you are interested in joining, or want to learn more about whether group is right for you. All participants will be screened prior to entering a group to ensure everyone's safety.

Trauma Group

In this six-week group, you will explore the spiritual, mental, and physical impacts of your traumatic event with an affirming set of peers. To provide continuity and deepen trust, these groups are single-gender (there is a men's group, women's group, and LGBTQIA+ group), and will consist of the same people each week. You will jumpstart your recovery as you speak directly to your trauma, and address your past and future selves. The group uses a mix of narrative therapy, visualization, psychodrama, and art, while paying close attention to the bodily effects of trauma and exploring grounding techniques to cope with overwhelming emotions and/or flashbacks. (This group is for individuals ages eighteen and older.)

Addiction Recovery Group ("GRIP")

Group Recovery and Interpersonal Processing (“GRIP”) provides a supportive, honest space for people to explore thoughts, fears, and feelings about early recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. It is an open-ended conversation where participants can share what’s weighing on them in early sobriety. Substance abuse and addiction issues often have roots in relational problems, so the group focuses on “here and now” interpersonal dynamics to teach healthier modes of communication. Anna draws on a wide portfolio of techniques (e.g., psychodrama, cognitive behavioral therapy, and psycho-education) to understand and rebuild thinking patterns, process emotions, grieve, and much more. (This group is for individuals ages eighteen and older.)

Grief Recovery

People say you have to let go and move on in your life, but they don't tell you what you need to do to accomplish that. The Grief Recovery Method Outreach Program not only makes that possible but provides partnerships and guidance to ensure that it happens. This eight-week group uses the Grief Recovery Method, an international, evidence-based technique that has been perfected by specialists for over forty years. The program differs from other support groups in its action-based and directed approach, and is a great choice for grievers who want more than traditional support groups offer. The Grief Recovery Method defines grief as the conflicting feelings caused by the end of or change in a familiar pattern of behavior. With this expansive definition in mind, we welcome people struggling with various kinds of losses, including but not limited to death, divorce or end of a relationship, pet loss, retirement, major health changes, loss of trust, and the “empty nest.” (This group is for individuals ages eighteen and older.)
